Text Message Crisis Service

Over the past several years Crisis Call Center has recognized a growing need for youth centered programs. According to a study conducted by Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Nevada is the leader in three out of four categories used to determine at risk status for youth suicide feelings of hopelessness, consideration of suicide, plans of committing suicide and attempted suicide.  In order to adapt to the unique communication needs of teens, CCC, the State of Nevada Office of Suicide Prevention, UNR, and several other collaborators developed the first text message crisis support program in the United States.  Communication procedures and goals will utilize the same strategies that have made telephone support successful over the years. Trained staff and volunteers (at CCC) will manage text communications using a secure, web based application, and standard computer workstations.
